Privacy Policy
I (Arpit Shukla) built this application to simplify the task of managing expenses with friends. The
service is provided at no cost.
This page presents the privacy policy for the Cashew android application in an understandable
language free of legalese.
What data do I collect and why?
-
Full name:
To let your group members identify you in case they haven't saved your contact number in
their phonebook.
- Profile photo:
For better user experience. You can choose your profile photo from a predefined list of avatars.
- Phone number:
As means of authentication so that you get informed when someone adds you to a new group and
give you access to
create, edit and settle expenses in the group.
- Groups and expenses data:
Required for the basic functionality of the app.
This includes basic details like group name, group display image, group members info,
created expenses and
recorded payments.
- Crash reporting data:
To fix crashes and improve user experience. This includes diagnostic information about your
device like its
brand, model and operating system it is running on.
Why does it require permission to read contacts?
Contacts permission is required to let you add members to a new or pre-existing group from your
phonebook and to view
their names (instead of their phone numbers) in different screens of the app.
Your contacts list is NOT uploaded anywhere and is completely PRIVATE to you. When a
new group is
created, only the phone numbers (and not names) of included members are saved. As mentioned
above, the phone
numbers are
required to inform those members about this new group.
Where is this data stored?
All the collected data is stored using Google Firebase Firestore and Storage services.
What is shared with third parties?
Your data is not shared with any third party except Google Firebase (which is the provider of
backend services like
database, storage, analytics and crash reporting)
